More UK student visas approved for Indians

Despite the pandemic, a whopping 98.74 Indians received UK student visas in 2021, compared to 37,396 visas granted in 2019. The increase was a sharp 164% increase in sponsored student visas issued to Indian students by the UK government. In 2020 this number stood at 52,010, an increase of 90% compared to the previous year. The UK also welcomed a total of 416,000 international students in 2021. India was only second after China, followed by Nigeria and Pakistan in terms of student visas.

Immigration experts cited the reintroduction of a post-study visa process, which would allow graduates to remain in the UK for a minimum of two years after completing the study, as one of the factors driving this rise. Another contributing factor to the increase is sponsored study visa grants that provide financial aid to international students applying to UK universities.

Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Borris Johnson, who recently went on a two-day visit to India, told reporters that he has always supported the idea of talented individuals coming to the UK. Britain’s top priority after Brexit is to establish trade ties with India, and any trade deal between the UK and India will most likely result in relaxed rules and lower fees for Indian students.
